At Made By Coopers, we believe in the power of self-care rituals, and what better way to indulge in some pampering than with luxurious bath melts infused with nourishing plant butters and aromatic essential oils? In this guide, we'll walk you through the simple steps to create your own blissful bath melts at home.

What are Bath Melts?

Bath melts are decadent, nourishing treats for your skin, designed to melt away in warm bath water, releasing moisturising oils and captivating scents. They are typically made with a combination of rich butters, such as mango butter, cocoa butter or shea butter, and essential oils known for their therapeutic properties.

Ingredients You'll Need:

Mango or Shea Butter: These luxurious butters are deeply moisturising and help to soften and nourish the skin.
Cocoa Butter: With its emollient properties, cocoa butter adds a rich, creamy texture to your bath melts.
Essential Oils: Choose your favorite essential oils for their aromatherapy benefits. Lavender for relaxation, peppermint for invigoration, or citrus oils for a mood boost are excellent choices, or go for a ready made blend like our Sleepy Head or Awaken Essential Oil Blends
Optional: Dried botanicals such as lavender buds or rose petals for an extra touch of luxury.

Instructions:

Melt the Butters: In a double boiler or a heat-safe bowl placed over a pot of simmering water, melt equal parts of mango butter, shea butter, and cocoa butter. Of course, going with just one of these butters is absolutely fine too. We normally suggested a cup full. Stir occasionally until fully melted.

Add Essential Oils: Once the butters are melted, remove from heat and allow them to cool slightly. Then, stir in your chosen essential oils. Start with a few drops and adjust according to your preference and the strength of the oil.

Optional: Add Dried Botanicals: If desired, gently mix in dried botanicals for added visual appeal and fragrance.

Pour into Molds: Carefully pour the melted mixture into silicone molds or ice cube trays. You can use various shapes and sizes to create beautiful bath melts.

Chill and Set: Place the molds in the refrigerator or freezer to allow the bath melts to solidify. This process usually takes about 1-2 hours, depending on the size of your molds.

Unmold and Store: Once the bath melts are completely solid, carefully remove them from the molds. Store them in an airtight container or jar in a cool, dry place until ready to use.

It really is that easy! There is no right or wrong with measurements either and you can play around with extra ingredients too, for example avocado oil or coconut oil. One thing to note though, is that you want the bath melts to be firm and solid so always keep the butter to oil ratio higher. Cocoa (cacao) butter is the firmest out of mango, shea and cocoa so its a good one to add to the formula.

When you're ready to indulge in a luxurious bath experience, simply drop one or two bath melts into warm bath water.
