4 Steps to Creating an Energising Morning Routine

There are many factors in todays world that can cause us stresses and lower our general energy levels. From the stilling and all-encompassing pandemic to the great social unrest all throughout the world, the pressing issues that the modern society deals with are endless. Undoubtedly so, all of these things can make us feel drained, restless and stressed. Fortunately, there are many ways we can alleviate such feelings, and one of which is by creating an energising morning routine to start your day.

overnight oats

Eat a healthy breakfast

Breakfast being the most important meal of the day may still be a contested issue, but the benefits of a nutritious breakfast can never be denied. As registered dietitian Sarah Elder explained in an article on the BBC, the body uses up a great amount of energy at night for growth and repair. It is for this reason why a balanced breakfast can help others feel much more energised at the beginning of each day. A significant number of studies have also linked eating breakfast with improved overall health, better memory and concentration, lower levels of bad cholesterol and reduced risk of diabetes, heart disease and obesity. If you do choose to have breakfast, choosing the right breakfast is really important. Stay away from sugary cereals and opt for whole grain breakfast choices like overnight oats, chia puddings with berries and honey or agave syrup for sweetness instead. If you are on a low carb lifestyle, eggs with avocado and spinach are also good choices.

yoga

Start your day with a low-intensity workout

Aside from filling your tummy, pumping your muscles can also be a great way to kickstart your day. Regular morning exercises have been found to increase alertness and focus, improve sleep and mood, as well as manage blood glucose and blood pressure. Contrary to popular belief, morning exercises don’t always have to be intense. Even low-intensity workouts like yoga can still deliver a myriad of benefits for your mind and body. In her article ‘The Spiritual Benefits of Yoga’, Jane Adamson mentioned how this meditative activity can alleviate depression, anxiety and insomnia and encourage self-awareness and balance. Yoga can also help promote flexibility, muscle strength and tone, weight reduction and protection from injury. With exercises and yoga being mainly online at the moment, you don’t even have to leave your house to incorporate this into your morning routine.

Engage your senses through aromatherapy

Another way you can ‘Boost Your Energy Levels’ in the morning is by engaging your senses through aromatherapy. As we have previously covered in one of our posts, certain essential oils like lavender and chamomile have a myriad of calming properties that can help with anxiety and positively influence mood -- thereby making a happier and lighter morning. Aside from lavender and chamomile, you might also want to try lemongrass oil. The reinvigorating aroma of this oil can increase mental alertness, improve focus, relieve stress and calm emotional turbulence. Some studies have also found that lemongrass has an overall calming effect on the central nervous system. This means that this essential oil can help you sleep better at night and at the same time energise you during the day. We recommend going for our Made By Coopers Revive scent, which is a blend of lemongrass, lime, bergamot and ginger and is available in essential oil blend for diffusers, natural candle and also room spray.

plan the day

This way you can avoid feeling overwhelmed and burned out at the end of the day.
